POSITION PURPOSE
This position is within the UW Cryo-EM Center. Duties include operation, maintenance, and user training for the transmission and scanning electron microscopes in the cryo-EM facility, including ThermoFisher Krios, Glacios, Spirit, Morgagni, and Aquilos microscopes equipped with various detectors including direct electron detectors. In addition to supporting internal users, this position coordinates with outside clients to facilitate data collection. General facility maintenance, including upkeep of auxiliary equipment and sample preparation equipment that includes multiple vitrobots, Chameleon vitrification device, manual plunger, carbon evaporator, and glow discharger. Maintenance of center IT infrastructure. Through the cryo-EM center, the position will support many labs with diverse research interests in biomedical sciences.

- 30% microscope instrument maintenance and coordination with service personnel10% assisting user sample loading and data acquisition set up
- 10% general facilities and auxiliary equipment maintenance5% center administration, including scheduling and billing
- 5% center IT maintenance MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Materials Science, or related field and 4 years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive knowledge of cryo-EM single particle data collection and image processing workflows; cryo-EM sample preparation expertise; working knowledge of electron microscopes; experience operating and optimizing data acquisition strategies for direct electron detectors; experience training users of various skill levels in a multi-user cryo-EM facility; knowledge of electron microscope optics, electronics, and mechanical systems; ability to operate multi-user IT infrastructure; ability to work with service personnel to ensure maintenance and timely repairs of the equipment. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience operating a fib-sem or sem, experience with tomography data acquisition and image processing, experience with micro-electron diffraction.This position is eligible for H1-B sponsorship.
