As a Supervisory Interdisciplinary Biologist/Chemist (Chief Branch of Aquatic Ecosystem Health) within the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Serves as the Chief, Branch of Aquatic Ecosystem Health (AEH), and is directly responsible for budget formulation and execution of a ~$5 M research program funded through USGS appropriations and reimbursable funding agreements with local, state, and federal agencies and non-governmental entities.
- Exercises a broad range of technical and administrative supervisory authorities and responsibilities over four or more employees within the AEH Branch, including determining appropriate staffing levels and pathways (e.g., federal permanent, term or temporary, student, contract) and identifying training requirements.
- Tracks and documents review and approval of study plans and information products (e.g., manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations, data) prepared by AEH scientists in accordance with UMESC and USGS policies (e.g., USGS Fundamental Science Practices [FSPJ), provides Center-approval when serving as Acting Center Director.
- Exercises significant responsibility coordinating work with other branches, Centers, USGS mission areas, Federal and State resource management and regulatory agencies, and university scientists. Advises Center Director and other agency management officials of research progress and findings as they pertain to their jurisdictional area of responsibility.
- Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.
