Duration:- 6+ Months Contract to Hire

JOB DESCRIPTION-:

Project Summary

  • Sr level person.
  • Independent / self-starter.
  • Dig into systems.
  • Lead a younger team with less than 1 year of AWS experience.
  • Technical leader to drive out design and provide guidance. Break out work for team members.
  • Mobbing experience and must be collaborative.

Skills:

AWS, Typescript / JavaScript, Cloud Fundamentals, React, Java backend.

Project: Deferred Pension team.

Website re-design.

Building out a web presence and move data from the mainframe to AWS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology Modernization: Our target state architecture is serverless AWS. Contribute to modernization efforts, adopting cloud-native architectures and automation frameworks to enhance reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with global business partners and technology teams.
  • Technical Support: Learn to provide expert-level support for systems, resolving complex issues across different tech stacks.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation, implementing innovative solutions to drive productivity gains.
  • Experiment, learn and keep up with new technologies and practices.
  • Once full time, periodic on-call support of applications and systems is required.

a. We had an engineer retire and are looking at filling this position with someone that has the technical experience to drive efforts forward and mentor more junior software engineers.

2. Please describe the project work, and what do day-to-day responsibilities look like:

a. Candidate will work closely with their team members in the US and India, mobbing and working through features. Providing bi-monthly demos to business stakeholders.

b. This candidate will work with the team to design technical solutions following the architect's direction and contribute to technical direction.

c. Mentor more junior software engineers.

d. Ability to demonstrate design thinking.

e. Communication daily with project manager and team and provide detailed descriptions of progress made on features.

a. Some of the specific technical skills needed for the role include AWS CDK, typescript, CI/CD pipelines, AWS Cloud fundamentals, Github fundamentals, Java back end or Java Full-stack.

a. This candidate will work on the PRT (Pension Risk Transfer) Deferred Administration team. This team currently has applications in AWS, Java and Cobol Technologies.

b. This team is modernizing their applications and moving applications and data to the cloud. ?

5. What skills are you looking for in the ideal candidate? This candidate should be a self-starter.

Be a technical leader for the team, designing technical solutions, mentoring other team members in US and India as needed.

A successful engineer on the team must be highly collaborative, customer focused, understand and deliver on technical and business strategies, be security minded, display high level of initiative, and willing to grow and learn new skills.

This candidate should be able to provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions that have an impact on other teams or the company.

Looking for someone who can help drive change and modernize the existing systems and data and move them to the cloud.

6. Could this contract position lead to a potential full-time role? Yes, this is a contract for hire position as a Hybrid EE in DSM.

Conversion expectations would translate to an Software Engineer III position.

7. Will this person be any sort of team lead?

a. This person would not be a formal team leader, but we want someone who can be a technical leader. A technical leader is someone that can drive efforts forward, leading the way on design and decision making and bringing other team members along.

8. What is the size and culture of the team?

a. The team is a mix between Home Office and India staff. Team size is 7 FTE's which includes the Delivery Manager and Project Manager.

9. Will this person interact with any other Principal departments?

a. Yes, we collaborate with other Principal departments.

10. Is this role needing someone to sit on-site, or work remote? a. Hybrid in the Des Moines office

11. How long is this contract expected to last? Is there a possibility of extension beyond this date? a. This will be a contractor for hire contract 6-12 months

12. What does the interview process look like for this opening?

a. Candidate will interview with senior Software Engineers from our department.

b. We will also be conducting a technical aptitude test during the interview process.
