Job Description
Roberts Onsite s Automation team is buzzing with activity, and we are looking to bring on a new team member. The Automation Specialist position is located in Kitchener, Ontario and reports directly to the Automation Controls & Engineering Manager.

Your Role and Essential Job Functions:
- Design automation and safety control systems based on project requirements
- Produce controls schematics for electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Produce 3D models and detail drawings of automation tooling
- Program, commission and troubleshoot all kinds of automation control systems in various industries in all flavours of hardware and software
- Assist with machine assembly, testing and troubleshooting
- Create and maintain project documentation
- Support the rest of the automation team as required
Additional Responsibilities May Include:
- Supporting project proposals and estimation
- Assisting with equipment selection and procurement
- Working on internal projects to streamline operational processes
- Lending a hand on the shop floor in crunch time
- Supporting other departments as required
Your Skill Requirements:
- Must have strong written and oral communication abilities
- Skilled with Microsoft Office
- Experience with AutoCAD, and OnShape
- Ability to read controls schematics and P&ID diagrams
- Knowledge of PLCs and HMIs (B&R Automation, Omron, Allen Bradley, Siemens) is an asset
- Ability to get right to the point
- Ability to problem solve
- Able to independently complete all specific responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Mechanically inclined - Comfortable with using tools to accomplish hands-on work
- Ability to visualize and design tooling from verbal concepts or napkin sketches
- Ability to complete all security clearance requirements that may be required for the performance of the work
- Good driving record
Bonus Points for:
- Aptitude for Programming (C, C#, VBA, SQL, Ladder Logic, or other languages)
- Data integration from the collection of factory floor data to the presentation of quality and production reports, using SQL databases, OPC/UA drivers, and various HMI/PC presentation platforms
- Experience Industrial robot programming in both simulation and real-world environments
- Experience working with G-Code and NC programming for motion control
- Experience with manual and automated machining and fabrication processes
- Experience with 3D printing
- Experience with industrial fieldbus networks
- Familiarity with IT/Networking
- Working knowledge of common machine shop and fabrication techniques
- Experience with CSA/PSHR requirements for safeguarding of equipment
- Working knowledge of automated equipment
- Experience with RFID systems
Your Education Requirements:
- College Diploma or bachelor s degree in Robotics and Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Design, or Industrial Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience preferred
- New graduates or upcoming graduates welcome to apply
