KeyBank is at an exciting juncture in our data management journey, having recently embarked on the implementation and roll-out of the next generation data catalog, built on the Alation platform. During this inflection point, we have a critical need within our Enterprise Data & Analytics Services (EDAS) organization for a dedicated and skilled Alation Data Catalog Analyst to help drive user engagement, adoption and the continued design and configuration across the Alation data catalog program.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Alation Data Catalog Analyst is primarily responsible for the design and configuration of the Alation Data Catalog to meet the needs of KeyBank's associates - with a keen focus on improving the efficiency of analysts in their quest to find, understand and use data. The Alation Data Catalog Analyst will be part of on an agile squad, working closely with business stakeholders, data consumers, data producers, and data engineering to improve the usability of data through coordinated efforts in data lineage, business definitions of data and data quality, to create a best-in-class catalog experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Define, develop & implement Alation data catalog functionality to satisfy the needs of broader data mgmt. programs and initiatives in flight.
  • Be a true champion of the Alation data catalog program and actively drive adoption and engagement across all areas of the bank.
  • Work with Data Owners and Data Custodians to identify critical data elements, define and capture data lineage or other key activities inside the data catalog
  • Support the technical integration efforts of Alation to other enterprise systems which could contain critical data lineage or data quality information
  • Design & develop custom workflows and integrations with other systems to automate data mgmt. processes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Alation issues as they occur
  • Provide thought leadership around data management concepts such as metadata mgmt. (technical and business), Data Quality, Data Lineage etc.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest Alation features and best practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in Business Process, Data Governance, Information Governance, Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Statistics (or other related field); or Master's degree (or its equivalent) in Business Process, Data Governance, Information Governance, Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Statistics (or other related field) with at least 3 years of relevant experience

Required Experience:
  • 5+ years' experience working in data governance, data catalogs, or other data management specific roles
  • Strong understanding of data catalogs and their respective capabilities including data dictionaries, business glossaries, business lineage, technical lineage, and data mgmt. workflows
  • Hands-on experience with the design, configuration or roll-out of data catalog tools such as Alation, Collibra, Informatica or similar
  • Hands-on experience with on-boarding technical and functional metadata from various sources including cloud data platforms, traditional RDBMS systems e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, etc. or Business Intelligence (BI) platforms e.g. Tableau
  • Understanding of cloud technologies such as Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) (preferable), Azure, or AWS
  • Intermediate SQL skills and foundational knowledge of database models
  • Familiar with data quality practices and its integration within a data catalog
  • Comfortable working independently and with other teams/vendors to resolve issues
  • Strong presentation skills and being able to effectively communicate across all levels of the enterprise

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $92,000 to $150,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
