The BLS headquarters is currently in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to Suitland, Maryland. If selected for this position, with an assigned duty station of Suitland, MD (Metropolitan Washington DC area), you may be eligible for limited telework with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, while the new headquarters is being completed. Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be expected to report in person to the Suitland Federal Center after receiving notification to do so. At that time, you may be eligible for limited telework, consistent with the telework policies of the Department of Labor, with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, and if consistent with telework policies and mission needs of BLS.
As an Administrative Officer, , you will serve as the Director of the Division of Business Operations (DBO) in the Office of Field Operations (OFO). The major duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for administrative support functions such as human resources management, procurement and contracting, budgeting, accounting and finance, management information, internal controls, confidentiality, audits and program reviews, safety, telecommunications, and mail operations
- Providing high-level support to the Associate Commissioner in carrying out the office's responsibilities in the areas of budgeting and financial management, human resources management and development, employee and labor management relations, organization and management analysis, management policy, management systems and controls, confidentiality, ethics, procurement, facilities acquisition and management, and workplace safety and health
- Investigating and studying management and operational issues to determine need for operational or policy change, or to determine where management improvements are necessary
- Formulating recommendations to the Associate Commissioner, justifying recommended action, gaining approval, and implementing and following through on actions, changes, and improvements for the solution of management problems and to obtain increased efficiency
- Planning and scheduling work assignments within the OFO and monitoring those assignments to assure efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness
