- The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Plans and carries out projects for collecting detailed agronomic and economic data on world production of assigned commodities; utilizes agronomic models and guidelines for making crop forecasts.
- Analyzes and appraises agronomic factors affecting crop yields and the effects of economic plans, policies, and programs of specific foreign governments.
- Shares world analyses and agronomic expertise in soil science, plant physiology, farm operations, crop stress analyses, crop phenology, and crop modeling with Division analysts and other agencies.
- Uses state-of-the-art computer hardware and software for satellite remote sensing imagery analysis and Geographic Information System (GIS) operations.
- Analyzes digital satellite and meteorological data in assessing crop conditions of multiple crops in foreign and/or domestic areas.
- Assists in the development of remote sensing technology for use in assessing domestic and foreign crop conditions. Conducts studies to develop best remote sensing capabilities for specific regions.
- Studies economic relationships in the agricultural economy of major commodity-producing countries; provides economic guidelines for making forecasts and evaluating results.
- Represents the Division concerning assigned commodities as related to revisions of worldwide commodity production programs of the Agency.
