- You will have an understanding of common metals and their properties, color, magnetism, reactivity, and weight in relation to cleaning and metal finishing.
- You will have the knowledge to be able to trouble shoot common plating tasks to identify and resolve problems.
- You will maintain and operate cleaning, treatment, and plating equipment to perform metal finishing operations to specifications.
- You will have a working knowledge of common chemical and electrochemical processes for cleaning, treatment, and plating operations.
- You will be responsible for reporting equipment or process failures and for making corrections or adjustments within the scope of ability.
- You will have the knowledge to evaluate the quality of the coatings and chemical processes applied.
- You will possess a practical knowledge of the reaction between commonly used chemicals and metals and metal alloys, and are skilled at using this knowledge to set up and provide proper treatments and processes for the metal parts to be plated.
- You will have knowledge of the air, steam, electric, and water controls associated with plating, cleaning blasting, and polishing operations.
- You will demonstrate knowledge of mathematics to calculate weights, measurements, surface area, and amp hours.
- You will adjust solution levels, checking solution temperatures, and making routine settings and adjustments to electrolytic and chemical equipment to insure a satisfactory deposit or finish on metal surfaces.
- You will use established processes to plate, coat, and treat metal items by immersion in a series of chemical or electrolytic solutions.
- You will apply you knowledge of the electrical circuit between the power source and the part to be plated to apply proper controls such as plating time, amperage, and current density as stated in processing procedures.
- You will work to technical work documents to meet required quality standards for nuclear and non-nuclear work.
- You will have skill and knowledge to accurately and safely use the tools of the trade, i.e. calibrated measuring devices, amp and volt meters, thermometers, magnifying glasses, amp-hour counters, PH meters, hydrometers, and more.
- You will plan your own work based on the instructions given by the supervisor and the requirements of the job.
- You must maintain tools, equipment, and work area to achieve safe working condition.
- You will assist employees of lesser or of the same rate, but may be assigned to work on job tasks alone or assist a mechanic electroplater.
- You will be responsible for successfully completing all required training.
