- Develops, implements, manages, evaluates and revises the hospital safety and occupational health programs and assures such programs comply with criteria established by Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards in Environment of Care (EoC), Life Safety (LS) and Emergency Management (EM).
- Anticipates, recognizes, evaluates and controls safety hazards in the workplace and patient care environment. Responsible for developing policies and procedures related to Safety Management, Fire Prevention, Hazardous Materials Management, Emergency Preparedness Management, Security Management, Equipment Safety Management, and Utilities Safety Management meeting federal/state/local occupational health and safety
guidelines, and standards are integrated into these plans. - Utilizes reference data to anticipate health hazards and recommend preventive measures to: 1) identify existing health hazards and prescribe controls: 2) substitute harmful substance with less harmful materials or processes: and 3) develop procedures to alter or isolate processes or operations in order to reduce or eliminate human exposure.
- Serves as an Emergency Management Point of Contact (EMPOC) for the Service Unit, activities include designing, conducting, and implementing the facilities' emergency management program for internal and external disasters.
- Conducts loss control and risk analysis surveys to identify and correct unsafe conditions to the public, patients, employees and the facility. Results of these evaluations are reported to safety committees and the other management officials involved in risk management.
- Coordinates with the Navajo Area Office Division of Occupational Health and Safety Management for the necessary environmental monitoring to identify and report health and facility exposure risks resulting from ionizing radiation, chemical agents, noise, vibrations, environmental conditions, Indoor Air Quality, and biological agents.
