You will serve as a/an Marine Inspector Training Officer and be responsible for for implementation and management of the unit's Marine Inspector/Port State Control Officer (MI/PSCO) training program and serves as a subject matter expert providing technical expertise and training leadership in the compliance duties of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention and vessel manning laws, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. The MITO serves as the Inspection Division's resident source of historical knowledge, fostering continuity and consistency of MI/PSCO training, qualification and competency management, inspection policies, technical issues and special program support activities.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Serving as the resident Division's source for continuity training
- Providing the unit's continuity training and qualifications for all marine inspectors attached to the unit
- Performing sufficient marine inspections and port state control examinations to maintain currency and expertise as the Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Establishing training plans for the timely achievement of qualification requirements, including online and resident training courses
- Conducting technical review of vessel plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with applicable regulations and standards
