Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of the Instructional Technology Center (ITC), the Audiovisual (AV) Services and Digital Media Assistant manages AV resources and produces/coordinates media content for university events and supports instructional technology projects across campus to enhance teaching, learning and engagement.

AV Support

  • Sets up, operates and troubleshoots AV and digital media equipment for university events, including academic functions and administrative meetings, and coordinates with external contractors as needed.
  • Collaborates with campus departments to assess and meet AV needs and coordinates with event organizers to ensure successful setups.
  • Provides technical support for high-profile events, ensuring systems are tested and prepared in advance to minimize disruptions.
  • Sets up and manages video conferencing sessions within the College of Education, Sport, and Human Science, as well as other campus functions.

Equipment Management

  • Assists the ITC Director in maintaining AV equipment, including inventory management, preventive maintenance and equipment upgrades.
  • Supports ITC budgeting efforts by researching cost-effective solutions for AV and instructional technology resources.
  • Manages the ITC multimedia equipment checkout system, ensuring equipment is functional, available and accessible to campus users.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and quality standards in all AV operations.

ITC Support and Professional Learning

  • Supports ITC operations by supervising work-study students, assisting with technology setups in instructional spaces and performing daily ITC functions.
  • Provides professional development opportunities related to AV requests and instructional technologies.
  • Stays current on emerging AV and digital technologies.
  • Contributes to ITC projects by creating or updating how-to resources and supporting faculty and student workshops focused on technology.
  • Conducts student worker training for AV support and develops innovative, technology-based learning opportunities.

Digital Media Assistance

  • Assists in the collection and production of digital content for media efforts in collaboration with University Communications and Marketing.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field, such as Media Technology, Mass Communication, AV Technology and Communications, Teleproduction Technology or Information Technology.
  • Experience with and basic troubleshooting of digital media and AV equipment, including cameras, projectors, sound systems and video conferencing tools.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Foundational knowledge of AV systems.
  • Knowledge of new emerging media technologies as applied to instructional needs.
  • Proven skill with digital media products.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage daily department operations in synchronous and asynchronous distance learning systems.
  • Ability to direct multiple concurrent projects/activities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in AV services.
  • Portfolio of independently created media.
  • Experience training, making presentations and/or working with students.

Additional Comments

Travel/Overtime Requirements: Flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Telecommuting: Employees are not eligible for telecommuting/remote work during their 12-month probationary period. After that time, certain positions may be eligible for telecommuting/remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and in accordance with Winthrop policies.
