The role of a project engineer is to support the Project Manager and be responsible for the oversight of most major aspects of construction work, including organizing the acquisition of materials, equipment and workers, planning for costs, and supporting the Project Manager on various tasks. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently but will work closely and report to the Project Manager.
Project Engineer Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting the project manager with RFI and submittal tracking document control, permitting, scheduling, bidding, client/subcontractor/internal meeting documentation, and project closeout.
- Assists with problem solving, coordination with subcontractors and field communications.
- General understanding of project budget; assist with buyouts.
- Monitor and track project quality control metrics and activities on a regular basis, provide timely and accurate quality reports, and raise issues to PM or Superintendent as appropriate.
- Assist in the development of cost estimates.
- Answer questions regarding the scope and/or timing of the project.
- Assist the project team with site safety documentation and coordination.
- Monitor costs and project progress.
- Maintain control of all project documentation
- Plan and organize construction projects from conception to completion.
- Generation of project punch list and closeout documentation.
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in business administration or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience as a project engineer in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of construction project management principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to read construction mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) drawings.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and multitask effectively.
- 5+ years of project experience working in the construction industry required.
- Must be proficient with MS Office Suite tools.
- Procore experience is a plus.
