Senior ServiceNow Developer - Remote
We are seeking a seasoned Senior ServiceNow Developer with a strong technical background to lead our ITSM modernization project. This role requires deep expertise in ServiceNow development, system architecture, and process re-engineering. The ideal candidate will reverse engineer existing ITSM functionalities and rebuild them to deliver a modern, streamlined experience with updated process flows and governance controls. You will also mentor junior team members and manage the promotion of code across multiple environments, ensuring robust delivery practices and alignment with strategic business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Architecture:
- Lead the end-to-end redesign of the ITSM module, including reverse engineering legacy functionalities.
- Architect and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance ServiceNow solutions aligned with modern ITSM practices.
- Establish and coach team members on technical standards, best practices, and governance frameworks to ensure quality and maintainability.
- Development & Customization:
- Design, code, test, and deploy custom ServiceNow applications and integrations, ensuring adherence to development best practices.
- Develop and document new process flows, workflows, and governance models to meet evolving business requirements.
- Optimize and refactor existing ServiceNow catalog items and business processes to enhance performance and consistent user experience.
- Project Management & Execution:
- Serve as the technical lead on the ITSM modernization project.
- Manage code promotion processes across development, testing, and production environments, following internal best practices and standards.
- Mentorship & Team Development:
- Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues, share knowledge, and drive improvements across the development lifecycle.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in ServiceNow and ITSM, integrating innovative solutions into our platform.
- Identify areas for improvement within the ITSM module and propose actionable strategies to enhance system functionality and user experience.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation to support ongoing system maintenance and future development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- 7+ years of experience in ServiceNow development and ITSM modules, with a strong background in scripting (JavaScript, GlideScript) and web technologies.
- Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex ServiceNow implementations, including design, build, and deployment phases.
- Hands-on experience with reverse engineering legacy systems and rebuilding them with modern practices and frameworks.
- Leadership & Project Management:
- Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale IT projects and managing multi-environment code promotions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
- Experience mentoring and leading junior developers, fostering an environment of technical excellence and collaboration.
- Process & Governance:
- In-depth knowledge of ITSM best practices and process re-engineering methodologies.
- Experience establishing and enforcing governance frameworks to ensure system integrity, security, and compliance.
- Ability to design and implement new process flows that align with business objectives and improve operational efficiency.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience working in agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead meetings, manage expectations, and drive consensus.
Preferred Qualifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator and/or Certified Application Developer credentials.
- Experience with integration of ServiceNow Service Management with other enterprise systems: ITOM/CMDB, and SPM/Demand/Agile 2.0.
- Familiarity with modern development practices such as DevOps and CI/CD pipelines in the context of ServiceNow.
