Sr. Design Engineer

*3-6 month contract (possible contract to hire) *Full Remote to start | Hybrid when converted. *Location: Eau Claire, WI *No C2C

The Senior Design Engineer leads the design and prototyping of Aftermarket and OE automotive components, specializing in injection molding. This role involves structural analysis, 3D modeling (Autodesk Inventor/SolidWorks), and program management, ensuring innovative, manufacturable solutions. Responsibilities include managing project timelines, budgets, and execution, while mentoring design engineers to meet performance, cost, and production goals. The engineer will drive fast-paced development cycles, bringing towing solutions from concept through prototyping and production for automotive customers.

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • 3D Modeling & CAD Software: Proficient in Autodesk Inventor / SolidWorks for solid and surface modeling, component, and assembly design.
  • Injection Molding & Automotive Components: Experience designing for injection molding in automotive applications, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with industry standards.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T): Strong knowledge and application of GD&T for precise component fit and function.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Ability to perform and interpret structural analysis on metallic and plastic components to meet performance requirements.
  • Prototyping & Production Readiness: Experience bringing designs from concept to prototyping and production, including creating DXF files for CNC use.
  • 3D Scanning & CMM: Experience with 3D laser scanning / CMM (Artec Leo preferred) for reverse engineering and quality validation is a plus.
  • Manufacturing & Safety Standards: Understanding of manufacturing processes, safety standards, and environmental impacts related to automotive component design.
  • Technical Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to present designs, write reports, create work instructions/SOPs, and collaborate with product management, manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Project Management: Experience managing schedules, budgets, and action items for design projects in a fast-paced, high-performance team environment.
  • Software & Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Project), 3D printing experience is a plus.
