The Role You’ll Contribute
The Histology Supervisor performs various anatomical pathology procedures in assigned areas as licensed. Under general supervision, is responsible for managing assigned, selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, which may include workflow, quality control process, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem solving for customers and coworkers, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades, writing/reviewing procedures, or other tasks as assigned. Assists department leadership in daily operations as duties are assigned.

The Role You’ll Contribute
The Histology Supervisor performs various anatomical pathology procedures in assigned areas as licensed. - Supervises histotechnologists, technicians, and assistants when processing tissue biopsy specimens
- Provides oversight for routine histology functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
- Observes routine patient test performances, including patient preparation, specimen handling, and testing
- Serves as a staff resource and assists with performance reviews
- Coordinates workflow on a daily basis to ensure timely analysis
- Resolves staff issues and recommends disciplinary actions, as needed
- Monitors tissue specimens for microscopic examinations
- Performs photographic procedures and diagnostic/analytic specimen testing
- Interprets, documents, and reports results
- Performs quality control testing, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting practices
- Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods
- Participates and assists in laboratory techniques and methods, as instructed
- Performs, assigns, and oversees as necessary pre and post analytical activities related to anatomic pathology tests assigned including specimen collection and processing, Quality Control, equipment maintenance, inventory control, Quality Assurance and proficiency testing procedures.
- Performs, and may assign, analytical activities and troubleshooting related to specimen
- processing, embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, coverslipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens. Continually maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Associate's Degree chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or histology technology Required
- 3 years experience Required
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Required
- State Licensure as a Histotechnologist
