About The Position
MISSION: EMBODY THE MESSENGER Ensure our brand stands heads & hairflips above the noise in the beauty industry + be our messaging & growth mastermind so we’re known for championing the mental health of Gen Z & having a sh!tload of FUN!
In This Role, You Will
- Storytell with our CEO to co-develop JOY RIOT!’s fun AF, entertaining, & mental health-forward corporate marketing strategy & our go-to-market campaign + write brand guidelines & growth strategy documents
- Blend brand with strategic growth & ideate industry-unusual humor & heart-led campaigns via our ecomm site, TikTok, IG, YouTube, SMS, email, music, festivals, tours, events, & podcasts that magnetize input, connection, & collaboration with Gen Z JOY RIOTers + align with our biz objectives & sales goals
- Center relationship & community-building with data to optimize marketing opps & create an emotional connection with our audience + develop long & short-term strategies, set marketing goals, projections, KPIs, & high engagement metrics + create a growth loop for word-of-mouth marketing
- Drive our “feeling good matters” positioning, differentiation, & equity to amp brand awareness & impact + co-create heart, attention, & market share-grabbing digital, experiential, & print collateral with our creative team + analyze all efforts in order to improve attraction & conversion metrics + identify bottlenecks to revenue growth
- Direct, motivate, & provide guidance to our in-house & remote creative team to use their talents effectively & to exceed our goals + coordinate their tasks & conduct performance reviews + provide input into potential creative hires & foster our culture of JOY
- Co-create, maintain, & strategically allocate the budget for the creative department + ensure marketing efforts are measurable, effective, & profitable + design pricing strategies that maximize profitability while remaining competitive in the marketplace
- Lead strategic partnerships & collabs with other brands, bands, content creators, & influencers to skyrocket brand awareness, recognition, reach, love, loyalty, & raging fandom
- Blend creative experimentation with data-driven decision-making + study internet & pop culture, consumer insights, data analytics, & competitor activities in order to identify growth opportunities + put our unique joy-spin on everything we touch
- Analyze the market & purchasing behaviors + study our sales cycle & competition to improve market share + identify key areas that require improvement + make marketing data compelling for stakeholders
- Co-develop visual assets & consistent brand messaging across all channels + conceptualize & implement JOY RIOT!’s North Star metrics & strategize how to scale beyond them + drive website traffic, performance, & conversion rates + conduct market research on consumer behavior to develop iconic products

Supervisory Responsibility
This position will have supervisory responsibilities. They include overseeing our Social Media Producer & Manager + marketing contractors + marketing intern.
Work Environment
Job duties for this position will be performed in our downtown Long Beach, CA headquarters.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. There is a likely chance for increased hours during brand & product launches.
Travel
Travel may be required for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or MBA in marketing, advertising, or an equivalent field
- 10+ years of experience in a CMO role, marketing, branding, or creative, preferably in the beauty industry
- Proven track record of developing successful concepts & humor-based messaging + driving sales & developing, managing, & executing successful B2C digital marketing campaigns
- Proficiency in business development strategies, customer joy, analytics, & data-led marketing
- Enterprise-wide mindset + holistic experience that encompasses brand development & management, growth strategies, creative, product development, ecomm, retail, sales, pricing, packaging, guerrilla marketing, finance, ops, & customer retention
- Experience managing a team of creatives
- Have worked on innovative, customer-obsessed, & financially successful campaigns with well-loved brands
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of mental health-related concepts preferred
- Experience marketing to Gen Z preferred
- Experience in a high-growth startup environment preferred
- Experience in the startup capital raising process & casting powerful, story-driven vision for investors a plus
- Experience in the beauty industry a plus
- Comfortable being on camera / visible on our social media a plus

- Participation in Seed capital raise meetings & qualified investor intros are required upon request once job offer is accepted
