POSITION

The Vice President for Development is responsible for overseeing INSA’s revenue generation, including membership retention and growth, event sponsorships, and the organization’s financial management, including budgeting and vendor contracts. The VP for Development plays a key strategic role in shaping INSA’s long-term financial sustainability and growth.

The VP for Development reports to the Executive Vice President. As an officer of INSA, this position is subject to annual approval by INSA’s Board of Directors in accordance with INSA’s Bylaws.

Key Responsibilities

Financial

Oversee INSA and INSA Foundation (INSF) finances, including the preparation, execution, and analysis of annual budgets.

Provide recommendations to the President and EVP on financial planning, cash flow management, and investment strategies.

Lead support to the Audit and Compensation Committee, ensuring timely, accurate and complete monthly financial reports.

Serve as the primary liaison to INSA’s outsourced accounting team and independent auditors.

Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships to optimize cost-effectiveness and quality.

Development & Revenue

Oversee the development of membership and sponsorship engagement strategies, ensuring financial success.

Drive membership retention and recruitment efforts, implementing engagement initiatives to enhance member value.

Lead revenue-generating activities, including sponsorships and table sales.

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for membership, events, and financial growth.

Collaborate with the INSA Management Team to develop innovative strategies for revenue diversification, and to shape organizational and strategic planning efforts for both INSA and the INSA Foundation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or advanced degree with at least

15 years of professional experience in finance, membership development, event management, or nonprofit leadership.

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute revenue-generating strategies , particularly in membership and events.

Strong financial management skills , including budgeting and execution.

Experience working with nonprofit Boards of Directors , including financial reporting and strategic decision-making.

Excellent leadership and team-building skills , with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

Strong strategic thinking , analytical, and problem-solving abilities to support strategic decision-making.

Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work evening events, about 10-12 times per year (in the DC metro area).

Hybrid work schedule, with 2-3 days per week in INSA’s Arlington office.

Knowledge of the Intelligence Community and national security landscape is preferred.

Must be a US citizen
