Description

We are currently seeking a seasoned Senior Systems Administration Manager to manage and maintain our IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will manage a team of 5-10 direct reports responsible for ensuring reliability, stability, and efficiency of our core systems and services. The role involves a mix of proactive management, routine maintenance, and rapid response to emergent issues.

This position is contingent on funding and will be located in Arlington, VA.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our organization's server infrastructure, including operating systems and applications
  • Ensure optimal performance of IT systems through routine evaluation, updating, and testing
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment, ensuring all systems are operating within the set parameters
  • Lead technical resolution of high-level system issues, conducting root cause analysis, and preventing future occurrences
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, policies, system configurations, and network maps
  • Administer and support core Microsoft, Cisco, and VMware technologies
  • Manage end-user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and compliance
  • Perform system backups and recovery procedures to ensure data protection and availability
  • Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders regarding IT systems and project updates
  • Manage and mentor junior system administration staff, delegating tasks and projects as necessary
  • Stay current with new technologies and best practices in systems administration to drive innovation and efficiency within the organization


Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in system administration, with a proven track record in a senior role
  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, particularly Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, Linux, and Mac OS
  • Extensive experience with VMware or equivalent virtualization platforms, as well as containerization technologies
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols, firewall management, and database administration
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), etc.) are advantageous
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of writing proposals and making presentations to a non-technical audience


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position may require on-call availability and occasional overtime
  • Participation in disaster recovery drills and activities
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of off-site system maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Must have an active SECRET clearance
