Job Title: Mainframe Business Systems Analyst (BSA) - Hybrid (Dallas/Tampa) - Contract

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to support a large-scale modernization project in the financial services sector. The ideal candidate will have experience with mainframe technologies, settlements, and dollar movement while demonstrating leadership capabilities to help product owners and scrum masters spin off new squads within the line of business (LOB).

This role requires a self-starter who can take charge, lead initiatives, and drive projects from inception to completion. The BSA will work closely with tech teams, gathering and documenting requirements for implementation while ensuring alignment with project goals.
Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a liaison between business and technology teams, gathering, analyzing, and documenting business and technical requirements.
• Provide leadership in establishing and growing new squads, ensuring smooth integration into the existing framework.
• Work closely with Product Owners (POs) and Scrum Masters (SMs) to define the scope, objectives, and deliverables of technology implementations.
• Support large-scale modernization efforts as the organization transitions from legacy mainframe systems (COBOL) to modern distributed platforms.
• Document and translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications for development teams.
• Engage with stakeholders, ensuring alignment between technology solutions and business objectives.
• Manage and track project progress, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Assist in vendor management for staffing, tools, and consulting services.
• Participate in the WebSphere projects as needed (a plus, but not mandatory).

Required Skills & Experience:

• 6+ years of experience in Business Systems Analysis within financial services.
• Mainframe exposure (COBOL, legacy systems) is required.
• Experience with settlements, dollar movement, and financial transactions.
• Strong knowledge of project lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and technology implementation.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive work to completion.
• Experience writing detailed functional and technical documentation for development teams.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage with stakeholders, technology teams, and business leaders.
• Technical experience in distributed platforms, WebSphere, AWS, or cloud technologies is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading teams or establishing new squads within an organization.
• Background in fintech, banking, or financial services.
• Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements within finance/settlements.
• Understanding of infrastructure, security, and data architecture related to financial application
