Position Overview:

The Athletic Director (AD) oversees the vision, development, and administration of the K-12 athletics program. This role includes managing coaches, facilities, budgets, compliance, student-athlete development, and fostering a culture of excellence and sportsmanship. The AD ensures that all athletic programs align with the school’s mission and values while supporting student-athletes at all levels.

Primary Responsibilities:Leadership & Program Development:
  • Develop and implement the overall vision for the K-12 athletics program.
  • Establish long-term strategic plans for program growth and success.
  • Promote multi-sport participation and athlete development across all grade levels.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local leagues, athletic organizations, and community programs.
  • Oversee and support ACA Sports Clubs and their development.
  • Implement succession planning for coaching staff and athletic leadership roles.
  • Ensure a transparent chain of command for athletic leadership when the AD is unavailable.
  • Directly manage the Assistant Athletic Director (AAD), providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure alignment with the school’s athletic mission and goals.
  • Oversee and manage the Athletics Assistant, ensuring effective communication strategies for promoting athletic events, achievements, and news through various channels (e.g., website, social media, newsletters) with the Communications Department.
Coaching & Student Engagement:
  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, management, and, if necessary, dismissal of coaches.
  • Implement a professional development program for coaches, including training and mentorship.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and feedback sessions for coaching staff.
  • Work with coaches and the College Counselor to support student-athletes pursuing collegiate athletics.
  • Create and lead a seasonal Captain’s Council focused on leadership and service.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive athletic culture that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
  • Encourage student participation in athletics at all skill levels.
  • Strengthen relationships with faculty and staff to promote cross-curricular integration of athletics.
  • Develop initiatives to increase student and community engagement in athletics.
  • Teach 1-2 sections of Physical Education.
Operations & Compliance:
  • Oversee compliance with GHSA and other relevant athletic organizations.
  • Ensure student-athlete eligibility compliance.
  • Supervise on-campus athletic space usage in coordination with the Operations Team.
  • Manage the school’s athletic facilities and report to the Assistant Head of School.
  • Oversee clothing, uniforms, and equipment management.
  • Coordinate athletics-related communication with the ACA Communications Department.
  • Maintain professional relationships with media sources for schedules, event updates, statistics, and other information.
Event Planning & Game Operations:
  • Oversee scheduling, logistics, and game-day operations for all athletic events.
  • Ensure proper game staffing, including referees, scorekeepers, and security when needed.
  • Organize and execute seasonal sports banquets and award ceremonies.
  • Manage transportation logistics for teams traveling to competitions.
  • Create and maintain a Hall of Fame and Record Boards for school athletics.
Finance & Fundraising:
  • Design and manage the athletic budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Facilitate fundraising efforts for athletic programs, including working with Parent Committees.
  • Oversee revenue-generating opportunities, including sponsorships, summer athletic camps, and facility rentals.
Health, Safety & Risk Management:
  • Ensure adherence to school policies, laws, and regulations regarding accidents, injuries, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and documentation for all incidents.
  • Supervise and support the Athletic Trainer (if applicable).
  • Implement emergency action plans (EAPs) for injuries, inclement weather, and security threats at events.
  • Train all coaches and AAD in emergency response procedures to ensure preparedness.
Off-Season & Summer Program Expansion:
  • Oversee the development and expansion of off-season training programs for student-athletes at all levels.
  • Plan and coordinate summer athletic camps, working with the AAD to increase participation and revenue.
  • Ensure that summer programs align with the school’s athletic philosophy and provide skill development opportunities.
Technology & Marketing:
  • Utilize technology to improve athletic program efficiency (scheduling software, training apps, etc.).
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of the athletics section on the school’s website.
  • Enhance athletics branding through social media, newsletters, and promotional content.
