Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supports month-end and year-end closing processes, and collaborates with internal teams to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial data
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, ensuring data accuracy and completeness
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections
- Reconcile bank statements, vendor statements, and intercompany transactions
- Monitor cash flow and support treasury functions
- Assist external CPA in tax filings, including sales tax, property tax, and income tax reporting
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations
- Support external and internal audit processes by preparing required documentation
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis reports
- Monitor expenditures and provide cost-saving recommendations
- Collaborate with department managers to ensure budget adherence
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within accounting functions
- Support ERP system implementations and upgrades
- Participate in special projects as assigned by management
Education & Experienc
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- At least 5-6 years of advancing experience in accounting, ideally in a corporate or public accounting settin
Technical Skill
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, data analysis)
- Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting standards
