Description: The Associate Product Manager is responsible for identifying new product opportunities based on user and market needs, planning development, and coordinating the tasks related to commercializing new surgical instruments. The Associate Product Manager will also assist the Product Manager and Senior Project Manager in enhancing and improving the Research and Development team’s product designs. The Associate Product Manager will assist with product training/questions, tradeshow/lab/case attendance, and other related support as it pertains to Research and Development endeavors.

What You’ll Do:
- Assist Product Manager in identifying opportunities to expand Thompson’s product line to meet user and market needs.
- Assist Senior Project Manager in developing and managing a detailed project schedule and plan.
- Conduct and/or attend regular meetings with engineering, sales, marketing, quality, and manufacturing departments to plan, track and execute the product development plan and ensure that all projects are completed on schedule.
- Communicate with Design Engineers, customers, sales, marketing, OEM partners, and independent entities to gain knowledge of product design requirements.
- Perform product and competitor research.
- Summarize competitive research to draw actionable conclusions for business.
- Establish and build new relationships with key opinion leaders to build product feedback and support development.
- Organize and visually present project details to key stakeholders for product development approval.
- Execute the product development process including feasibility, creation of design inputs, participation in risk management, and review of design outputs to ensure all elements of product design are considered.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Quality, and Manufacturing to plan, track, and execute product development to meet launch deadlines.
- Assist with receiving and recording product feedback, both domestic, international and OEM.
- Assist Product Manager and Senior Project Manager with various day to day tasks including product reports, research, sales team training, and related tasks.
- Attend tradeshows, cases, or labs as needed to gather feedback, further R&D development, and/or assist with new product launches.
- Drive results in support of the business, even in the face of demanding timelines. Take on additional responsibility as appropriate.
This Might Describe You:
- Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, pre-med, pre-dental, or Engineering Degree in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering.
- Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope and timeline.
- Able to prioritize tasks to lead overall success.
- Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to create concepts from brief customer requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent research, problem-solving and learning skills.
- Must be able to work in a team environment, execute responsibilities with minimal direct supervision, and have a high attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and ensure projects are complete and meet regulations and expectations.
- Proven willingness to learn new skills and technology; growth mindset.
- Ability to take on challenges, navigating organizational dynamics, forecasting, and can break down obstacles for project success.
- Experience in technical report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to define and execute V&V plan including completion of final report.
- Training in Engineering drafting and/or 3D Cad Design (SolidWorks preferred).
Location: In office, non-remote based position in Traverse City, MI. Ideal candidates reside in the Northern Michigan area or have a strong desire to return or relocate to this area long term. Some travel to tradeshows or labs may be required.
