Staff Accountant
POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
EXEMPT OR NON-EXEMPT: Non-Exempt
REMOTE/ONSITE/HYBRID: Onsite
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, managing accounts payable and receivable, performing bank reconciliations, filing tax returns, generating financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, assisting with the monthly closing procedures, payroll processing, monthly and yearly forecasting/budgeting, account reconciliation, and accruing for future costs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- General ledger management including preparing and completing journal entries and timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items.
· Personnel management including payroll processing and reporting, completion of account reconciliations and accruals.
· Provide support to employees who have questions regarding their payroll.
· Assisting with forecasting / budgeting personnel related expenses.
· Assist with and provide information for health and property insurance renewals.
· Provide support for the MLRP (Marine Life Rescue Project) team including invoicing, purchasing, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
· Assisting with audit requests as needed (401(k), worker’s compensation and financial).
- Fixed asset management including adding, retiring and disposing of assets in a timely manner in addition to processing depreciation and amortization on a monthly basis.
- Complete capital expenditure budget and monthly forecast.
- Manage relationship with outsourced providers and prepare entries to record contractual relationship including month-end accruals.
- Collaborate with Human Resources team to ensure accurate input of benefits into payroll/HRIS system
· Other accounting duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance or related degree is preferred, experience may substitute for degree
- Minimum 2-years experience in general ledger accounting at a Not for Profit or For Profit organization with revenue of at least $10M.
- Experience with Sage Intacct accounting system and Paycom payroll system strongly preferred
- Excellent/professional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
· Solid understanding of basic accounting practices and GAAP and able to apply to current job responsibilities
· Accuracy and attention to detail, aptitude for numbers, well organized
· Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
· Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
· Data entry and word processing skills
· Motivated with strong initiative, a self-starter

- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data.
- Experience working for a not-for-profit a plus
