With six retail stores across Southern California and a strong e-commerce presence, we are scaling rapidly and looking for a strategic, hands-on Assistant Controller to oversee our financial operations as we continue our growth trajectory.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations. This role is crucial in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making as ForRowan scales. The Controller will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls while working closely with leadership to drive profitability and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, inventory accounting, and general ledger management.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow).

Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.

Manage and optimize the chart of accounts and financial processes.

Develop and maintain internal controls to protect company assets.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting

Lead the annual budgeting process, forecasting, and financial planning.

Monitor and analyze key financial KPIs, including gross margin, cash flow, and cost structures.

Partner with leadership on pricing strategies, cost control measures, and retail expansion financial modeling.

Provide data-driven financial insights to support business decisions and growth strategies.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

Monitor and manage cash flow forecasting to ensure adequate liquidity for operations and growth.

Work closely with banks, vendors, and stakeholders on financial agreements, credit lines, and funding opportunities.

Oversee and optimize retail and e-commerce revenue streams, ensuring proper cash handling and reconciliation.

Tax, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure timely tax filings (sales tax, income tax, and payroll taxes) in compliance with state and federal laws.

Work with external auditors and tax advisors on financial audits and tax planning.

Implement and monitor financial risk management strategies, including insurance and regulatory compliance.

Systems & Process Optimization

Improve and automate financial processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Lead ERP/accounting software implementations or optimizations as needed.

Establish financial best practices for retail and digital sales channels.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).

Previous experience in accounting/finance, preferably in retail, fashion, or e-commerce.

Strong GAAP knowledge and experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.

Experience with inventory accounting and retail financial operations.

Proficiency in QuickBooks, NetSuite, or other accounting software.

Advanced skills in Excel and financial modeling.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

Experience in a high-growth startup, retail, or fashion brand.

Knowledge of wholesale, direct-to-consumer (DTC), and multi-channel revenue models.

Familiarity with e-commerce payment reconciliation and POS systems.
