The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the field safety efforts of the company to reduce accidents, injuries, and unsafe situations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and the ability to drive company vehicles
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card
  • Ability to travel 90% by vehicle or air, with overnight travel throughout territory
  • Minimum of 2 (two) years of safety and compliance experience
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to assess, coach, and mentor team members
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Defensive Driver trainer certification
  • OSHA 510 and OSHA 500 certifications
  • Incident response and investigation experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have the ability to sit at a desk or in a vehicle for prolonged periods of time
  • Must have the ability to sit, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for up to 10 hours a day
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, or move equipment of 50 pounds or more
  • Must have the ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions while completing work
  • assignments (rain, heat, humidity, sun, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to walk, stand, and move through diverse types of terrain, including uneven ground and sloped embankments
  • Must be willing to be in close proximity to wildlife such as snakes, stinging insects, spiders, and other species
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exemplify our five core values (Safety, Others, Integrity, Initiative, and Passion)
  • Ensure compliance with current federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Perform audits of the company’s facilities, equipment, procedures, training, and recordkeeping to identify areas of improvement
  • Provide daily guidance and direction on safety programs
  • Participate in safety meetings for all locations, as needed
  • Participate in tailgate briefings, providing coaching when needed
  • Assist with investigating incidents to discover root causes and determine appropriate preventative measures
  • Review the fleet tracking data daily and coach driver’s safety skills through a variety of techniques
  • Monitor daily Hours of Service (HOS) reports
  • Assist with developing training programs for new hires and current employees
  • Conduct Defensive Driving and First Aid/CPR training
  • Assist with the requirements of the driver qualification files and maintenance of existing driving files
  • Assist with reviewing annual Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR)
  • Ensure recordkeeping requirements are maintained per federal, state, and local regulatory agency requirements
