Job Summary:

The primary focus of this role is the design engineer function, which is focused on the design of cooling systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and supporting components. Additional focus areas may include design for manufacturing, cost reductions, fixture design, design of electro-mechanical systems, statistical analysis, tool design, etc. Other daily responsibilities will include participation in production readiness activities and design support for current production finished goods. As design improvements are identified, the Design Engineer will participate in implementation and validation. An important aspect of this position is the hands-on nature including equipment setup and lab testing. In addition to the Design Engineering function, this role will also be responsible for the development of products interacting with all departments in the organization. They will take the lead role in prototypes, product changes, test stands, tools, and assembly needed for launching new and improved products. This role will improve and troubleshoot existing processes with released products as needed. Providing technical support in the form of documentation, troubleshooting, and design reviews will also be required.

Essential Functions & Tasks:

Design Engineer (approx. 60%)

  1. Design of heat transfer systems meeting customer specifications in a cost-effective manner.
  2. Design and build tooling, fixtures, test stands, etc.
  3. Stakeholder in new product roll out to manufacturing floor.
  4. Owner of root cause and investigations pertaining to design related issues.
  5. Create and maintain process documentation supporting the building of prototypes.

Project Manager (approx. 40%)

  1. Engineering project management and facilitate new product/project launch process.
  2. Coordinate with all internal departments to ensure projects are completed on time and at budget.
  3. Troubleshoot design issues as they arise for both prototype and released product.
  4. Provide general support for the design, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams in the form of problem solving and continuous improvement.
  5. Lead stakeholder in new product roll out to manufacturing floor.
  6. Owner of root cause and investigations pertaining to design related issues.
  7. Create and maintain process documentation supporting the building of prototypes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 10+ years of recent & and relevant experience in design engineering for manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD software).
  • Proficiency with GD&T Software (Minitab, JMP).
  • Lean or Kaizen experience/mentality.
  • Depth of experience designing for various fabrication technologies, including all welding disciplines, machining, laser cutting, sheet metal, etc.
  • Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Project management skills, including establishing project budget, budget tracking, etc.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to create and read mechanical prints.
  • Proficiency with basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) understanding the process by which designs will be built and capable of estimating Cost of Goods Sold, including labor costs.
  • New product development processes and techniques.
  • Pump design, Fluid system design, Heat transfer analysis is highly preferred.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling and analysis.
  • Finite Element Analysis.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a desire for hands-on activities such as test setup, test execution, data collection, etc.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical process equipment, such as multimeters, PLC's power supplies, gauges, and various test equipment.
