Job Description:
The Packaging Lead is a key position in the Packaging Department at King City Gardens (KCG). This individual will oversee the day-to-day operations of the packaging room, ensuring that packaging activities are completed efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The Packaging Lead is a key position in the Packaging Department at King City Gardens (KCG). The Packaging Lead will supervise and support a team of packaging employees, ensuring all products meet quality control standards before they are moved to the next stage in the production process.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership:
- Lead, train, and motivate a team of packaging employees to ensure that all packaging jobs are completed on time and within quality standards
- Oversee the proper use of packaging materials, including Metric tags, compliance labels, tamper seals, and DCC seals
- Assign tasks to packaging employees, ensuring workload balance and operational efficiency
- Ensure that all cannabis products are packaged according to company standards, regulatory guidelines, and customer specifications
- Ensure that Metric tags are being used correctly, starting with the smallest available number and verifying the adequacy of product for packaging
- Monitor the daily packaging process, ensuring products are labeled accurately with compliance labels and DCC seals before moving to Quality Control
- Oversee the QC process to ensure that all packaged products meet KCG's quality and safety standards
- Ensure that all products are checked for contaminants (hair, cardboard, etc.), proper sealing, and correct labeling
- Monitor compliance with packaging standards such as stem removal, tamper seals, and heat seals for bags
- Ensure that all packaged products are scanned into the package scan sheet and placed in the correct storage location
- Assist in maintaining accurate records, including compliance label logs, QC checks, and packaging progress in KCG's Google Sheets and Monday board
- Coordinate with the compliance print person to ensure that all compliance labels are preprinted and stored correctly
- Work closely with the Packaging Manager to resolve any discrepancies, shortages, or packaging issues during the day
- Collaborate with the QC team to ensure that all final packaged units meet the necessary regulatory and quality control requirements
- Communicate with the Cure Lead and Supervisor to confirm the availability of batches and product quality before packaging
- Provide guidance and ongoing training to packaging employees on compliance labeling and packaging procedures
- Ensure all packaging staff adhere to SOPs and industry regulations
- Ensure that packaging operations comply with all safety guidelines and regulatory requirements related to cannabis product packaging
- Monitor and enforce the use of proper PPE and safe handling practices in the packaging room
- Previous experience in packaging, manufacturing, or a similar environment is preferred
- Strong knowledge of Metrc and compliance regulations related to cannabis packaging
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining product integrity and accuracy in packaging
- Ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining a positive and productive work environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail
