Primary Purpose Of Position

This position is charged with direct project management responsibilities for ensuring that Capital Improvement design and construction projects, and Repair and Renovation projects are completed on time and within established budgets while ensuring the capital improvement to the University’s facilities meets Federal, State and local building codes as well as University requirements with minimal disruption to on-going University activities. The position will serve as a lead project engineer. As an advanced Facilities Engineer/Project Manager, this position is tasked with managing multiple, complex capital improvement projects. Capital improvement projects for the journey level are mid to high scale and may be valued up to $120M, are moderately complex and technical in nature and involve those modifications to the physical educational and work environment requiring funding to implement. Complex projects may vary from new construction of buildings and infrastructure to renovations of existing facilities and systems. Examples may be replacement of boiler equipment, new roofing, underground utilities, new buildings, renovated spaces, storm water basins, parking lots, telecommunications & data centers, laboratory research facilities, multi-purpose spaces, landscaping, fire alarm systems, security systems, HVAC equipment and systems, Life Safety systems – typical higher education facilities. This position has direct responsibility for administration and coordination of each of these contracts and professionals. This position requires the ability to prepare for emerging needs; manage multiple projects; determine project urgency in a meaningful and practical way; use goals to guide actions and create detailed action plans; schedule people and tasks to achieve goals with minimal oversight, budget tracking for project portfolio, and program management to work through complex project matters and strategic oversight for multiple projects.
