Reports to: Manager, Data Systems and Web Services

Terms and Conditions: Full-time, 12-month position.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: Base salary $75,000 - $83,000 depending on qualification and experience; competitive benefits package, including participation in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension system.

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data analysis and visualization, with expertise in SQL. The position will be focused on extracting meaningful insights from large datasets, implementing reports and dashboards in tableau, and administering the tableau server software. Additionally, the role will assist with daily operations support tickets for the Data Systems team. These tasks will occur within an educational setting and will service the faculty, staff, Administration, the Board of Education, students, and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Data Extraction & Transformation:
    • Write and execute complex SQL queries to extract, clean, and transform data from various sources (databases, Google Sheets, SFTP transfers, etc).
    • Perform data quality checks and identify/resolve data inconsistencies.
    • Assist the Database Administrator in creating and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization:
    • Develop interactive dashboards and reports using Tableau to effectively communicate data insights.
    • Conduct in-depth data analysis, identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Business Intelligence for Education:
    • Work with the Director of Assessment and Research to translate educational performance questions into actionable data analysis and reporting requirements.
    • Collaborate with educators to understand their data needs and provide data-driven solutions.
    • Proactively identify areas for data improvement and process optimization.
  • Data Governance:
    • Ensure data integrity and compliance with data quality standards.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data documentation and best practices.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Provide Tableau server administration.
    • Support end user interaction with the Student Information System (similar to an ERP but for education).
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Data Systems.
Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience as a Data Analyst or in a similar role.
    • Strong proficiency in SQL and data manipulation techniques.
    • Experience with data visualization best practices and techniques.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


  • Preferred
    • Familiarity with Tableau or similar BI software such as Power BI is a plus but not required.
    • Familiarity with Tableau Prep is a plus but not required.
    • Experience with data warehousing concepts and methodologies (preferred).
Physical/Visual Skills And Demands

Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or R (preferred).

Physical and visual demands of the position are consistent with standard office conditions. No non-standard lifting or visual acuity expected.

Environmental Conditions

School building and facilities and computer office environment are the standard environmental conditions.
