Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for sustaining existing products and developing new ones. They will apply their expertise in technology, materials, and manufacturing methods to enhance the design, usability, and efficiency of assemblies and sub-assemblies. Additionally, the Engineer will implement Design for Manufacturing, Design for Supply Chain, and cost control initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Apply engineering principles to design critical mechanical systems, including hydraulics, mobile machinery frames, engine packages, cooling systems, and HVAC.
- Develop and test structural mechanical, powertrain, thermal, pneumatic, and hydraulic components and systems within the Inova vibrator product line.
- Utilize computerized modeling and hands-on testing to validate design concepts.
- Identify and resolve problems efficiently; develop alternative solutions and contribute effectively to group problem-solving discussions.
- Develop test plans and perform testing functions for both prototype machines and production vehicles.
- Produce detailed specifications, parts lists, and cost estimates using dedicated software tools.
- Identify new technologies and innovations, collaborating with outsourced development partners for future product integration.
- Support existing field equipment through sustaining engineering activities.
- Generate and maintain full manufacturing specification packages, including engineering BOMs.
- Complete engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) and New Part Number Requests (NPRs).
- Perform project management reporting tasks.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to establish design briefs, including concept development, performance expectations, and production criteria.
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to discuss design concepts and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Utilize Autodesk Inventor software to develop and refine design concepts in real time.
- Assess material suitability and availability for prototyping, engineering builds, and supply chain alternatives.
- Occasionally travel to engineering and production facilities.
- Deliver presentations and write clearly and informatively; review and edit documents for spelling and grammar accuracy.
- Develop and implement engineering processes and procedures.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and wellness policies and legislation requirements.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years (preferably 10 years) of experience in mechanical design within industrial applications.
- Field experience as an engineer, technician, or technical support for seismic vibrators is preferred.
- Relevant product design and support experience with heavy industrial mobile equipment in industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, forestry, military, or seismic is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor/Vault and Autodesk AutoCAD 2D.
- Strong understanding of analytical tools, including FEA and CFD, with experience in Ansys, Nastran, Simcenter Amesim, and PTC Mathcad.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and symbols.
- Strong documentation skills and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
