Position Title: Director of Starts

The Director of Starts will lead efforts to support startups, engage corporate leaders, bring investment to the region, expand Medical Alley's reach worldwide and position Medical Alley as the definitive organization for health innovation. Medical Alley works with private companies, investors, trade groups, and foreign governments, to bring innovative technology and business to the United States through Minnesota's world-leading healthcare and health technology hub. Medical Alley lowers the cost for companies to start, scale, and pivot, so more startups are more successful. We promote the region and attract investment resulting in a stronger ecosystem. Every day is different when working with high-tech, high-growth global businesses. This position reports to the President/CEO.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Market Expansion and Business Development

• Design and execute strategies to drive growth and adoption of the Medical Alley Starts program.

• Sell and close deals/agreements while expanding reach and offerings.

• Position Medical Alley Starts program as a leading global healthcare venture platform and accelerator for innovation.

Strategic Program Management

• Establish and drive a program strategy that balances high-volume connections with high-quality product and program delivery.

• Develop and implement structured processes to enhance the delivery of sponsorships, venture partnerships, GTM (Go-To-Market) Accelerator initiatives, and corporate development partnerships.

• Create and monitor specific Statement of Work (SOWs) and KPIs for each client to ensure measurable outcomes.

Performance Management and Accountability

• Set clear metrics for performance across all program areas, ensuring consistent tracking and reporting on outcomes.

• Lead the team in aligning with program goals and maintaining high standards of accountability and impact, fostering a culture of high performance and results-oriented execution.

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Development

• Cultivate deep relationships with local and international stakeholders, including venture capital firms, corporate development teams, and government bodies, to expand program reach and impact.

• Oversee and promote sponsorship opportunities, ensuring visibility and value for sponsors, clients, and partners.

Leadership and Team Management

• Lead a dedicated team, including Principals, guiding each role to maximize their contributions to the program.

• Work closely with team members to structure and execute initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration and program success.

The Individual: Our ideal candidate will be a visionary and strategic leader with a strong understanding of healthcare, venture capital, and business development within the start-up ecosystem. They should demonstrate a high level of drive, possess exceptional relationship-building skills and have a collaborative leadership style that inspires others.

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in venture programs, corporate development, or healthcare innovation. Experience with accelerator programs or start-up ecosystems is a plus.

Skills:

o Proven ability to set measurable goals and drive results.

o Strong analytical skills to interpret data and metrics and apply insights to improve program effectiveness.

o Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication abilities.

o Demonstrated ability to manage diverse teams and foster a collaborative, high-performance environment.

• Technical: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM platforms; experience with data analytics tools is advantageous.

Leadership Style and Characteristics

• Vision and Purpose: Inspire stakeholders by articulating a clear program vision and maintaining a commitment to healthcare innovation.

• Collaboration and Influence: Lead through influence, building trust with a variety of stakeholders and effectively balancing competing priorities.

Education/Certifications/Other Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Management or a related field.

• Foreign language(s) a plus

• Grant Writing, grant management skills a plus.

• Valid Passport required.
