The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Chief Information Officer. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. The position of the college’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) is primarily responsible for managing and administering the Department of Information Technology, supervises the IT Security Officer and IT staff, ensures proper functionality of services and hardware related to the network, as well as all computing activities for SVCC and its global environment for all faculty, staff, and students. Responsible for legal compliance, system performance, long-range planning, and budgeting.
The Chief Information Officer reports to the Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration. The CIO oversees the operations of all systems that support related student services in order to ensure a positive environment for the education of the students. Responsible for preparing and managing the college technology plan and budget; oversees IT audits and reports and prepares audit responses; participates in college, VCCS, regional, and national committees and work groups involving IT planning and implementation. Provides leadership in multiple functional areas to ensure the security and functionality of the college network is operating smoothly and is keeps technologically legally up-to-date.
Responsibilities of the Chief Information Officer include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities of the Chief Information Officer include but are not limited to:
- Supports staff in making sure they have the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability to accomplish goals
- Manages employees and prepares and conducts employee evaluations
- Researches, develops, and implements new technologies for all campuses.
- Follows industry trends
- Prepares reporting and documentation on new technology for the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration
- Participates in college, VCCS, regional, and national committees and work groups involving IT planning and implementation
- Monitors VCCS technology guidelines and standards to ensure SVCC compliance
- Ensures that the department stays within budgeted guidelines for purchases
- Responsible for the annual revision of the college Technology Plan
- Ensures in-house data and voice security is equal to or above the standard listed by VCCS and by the Information Security officer
- Responsible for providing necessary training for all users on applicable policies
- Provide training and advisement on new technologies.
- Serves as a liaison and handles work related to the VCCS Security and IT policy
- Monitors usage of users to ensure policies are followed as set forth by SVCC IT and the VCCS
- Work with other departments as needed as a technology consultant on projects
- Manage large and small-scale projects to ensure compliance

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Ability to prepare and manage the college technology plan and budget
- Ability to manage systems development projects, identify goals, monitor progress, and manage implementation required
- Requires extensive knowledge of the legal protocol, policies, and processes of the college’s IT department to prepare for and oversee IT audits and reports, and prepare audit responses
- Ability to organize work and set priorities related to high-level systems functionality
- Ability to troubleshoot and analyze issues to assist users with problem identification and resolution required
- Ability to effectively and professionally supervise staff required
- Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with non-data processing personnel required
- Requires effective oral and written communication skills
- Requires ability to foster cooperative work relationships with faculty, administrators, staff and students
- Demonstrated knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), TCP/IP, and other protocols and operating systems
- Requires broad technical knowledge of computing environments, networking, domains, operating systems, protocols, and communications
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Electronic Technology, Computer Engineering or related field preferred, however, experience may be substituted for education.
- Supervisory experience in a department providing computing services to the organization plus project management experience in systems development highly preferred
- High-level industry certifications
