Job Description

The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for managing the day to day property finance and accounting functions including financial statements and A/P for multiple properties. The Senior Property Accountant will handle a larger quantity of and/or more complex properties in addition to mentoring and providing guidance to other accounting staff members (i.e. Property Accountants, AP Lead, etc.) as needed.

Essential Duties

Accounting Functions

  • Property Accounting
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly financial statements for assigned properties
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and funds transfers
  • Initiates and tracks debt service payments
  • Reviews all general ledger entries for accuracy and questions any abnormal activity
  • Prepares analysis and supporting backup for all Balance Sheet accounts
  • Calculates and remits monthly/quarterly management fees, asset fees, owner distributions
  • Works closely with Regional Manager(s)
  • Assists with year-end tax returns/audits
  • Prepares and submits replacement reserve refund requests
  • Accounts Payable
  • Reviews property invoices for proper coding
  • Prepares cash sheets for Regional Managers as necessary
  • Processes vendor payments
  • Verifies Utility payments
  • Other Duties
  • Recommends property accounting methods to ensure effective controls
  • Provide guidance to other accounting staff members as needed

Knowledge/Experience Required Of The Position

  • Ability to execute in a multi task environment.
  • A minimum of five years in the accounting field with a sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Must have previous Financial and GL accounting experience.
  • Real Estate accounting experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in accounting systems required.
  • OneSite experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator; ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize a large number of tasks.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to varying ownership needs.
  • Demonstrates consistency in values, principles and work ethic.
