Position Summary:

Reporting to the Paralegal Manager the Intellectual Property Paralegal will work directly with Attorneys in the Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating domestic filings with the USPTO and international filings through foreign counsel.
  • Monitoring and maintaining IP portfolios, including tracking and managing deadlines using the firm docket system and ensuring timely filings of responses, renewals, oppositions, and payment of patent annuities and maintenance fees in the U.S. and foreign countries.
  • Preparing and filing documents with the USPTO.
  • Preparing and recordings Assignments.
  • Preparing correspondence to clients and foreign counsel.
  • Preparing status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
  • Maintain and organize electronic IP records and files.
  • Processes and takes action on correspondence received from foreign counsel.
  • Obtaining legalizations and certifications.
  • Researching and compiling information pertaining to national and international patent rights including searches of USPTO records, industry databases and general legal research.
  • Ability to convey information to individuals at all levels within the firm in a courteous and professional manner; strong service orientation.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects with changing priorities.

Position Requirements and Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree with ABA paralegal certification or Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal studies, preferred
  • 2 - 5 years minimum paralegal experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication across a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys and staff while maintaining high level of work quality and customer service.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
  • Ability to work moderate to heavy overtime.
