Position Summary
Orlando Health Cancer Institute is seeking a full time, board certified or board eligible genetic counselor to join three cancer genetic counselors, one nurse practitioner and one medical oncologist in the Cancer Genetics and High-Risk Center. The position involves providing genetic counseling to patients of all ages with a personal or family history of various cancers, including both common and rare tumor types. We also collaborate with providers in our High-Risk clinic who manage patients at elevated risk of cancer with coordination of recommended screenings or discussion of risk reducing strategies.
Orlando Health offers competitive salaries and full benefits packages. Benefits for genetic counselors also include funding for certification/continuing education, four-day work weeks and the possibility of working remotely one day a week.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Obtain and review patient’s medical and family histories.
- Help assess a patient’s history in order to determine if the family may benefit from genetic testing.
- Facilitate the process of genetic testing.
- Assist patients and their healthcare providers in the interpretation of genetic test results.
- Formulate a medical management plan based on the patient’s history, family history, and genetic test results.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Support the missions of the service line/hospital/department and Orlando Health to provide high quality, patient-centered care.
- Maintain a proactive interaction with all OH team members and leaders
- Successful demonstration of entry level competencies: pedigree taking, dictation skills, computer literacy, etc.
- Chart preparation and medical records review.
- Document patient interactions through patient and physician summary letters.
- Stay abreast of the latest research relating to genetics and genetic testing options.
- Educate other healthcare providers and the general public about genetics.
- Maintains required records, reports and files.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
- Attend at least 1 professional education mtg per year.
- Maintain appropriate annual mandatory education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Training
- Masters in Genetic Counseling required.
- Board-Certified or Board-Eligible (18 months to complete requirement) by American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or
Experience
- 0-3 years of work experience in clinical genetic counseling.
