The Purchasing Agent is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the purchasing and inventory planning of specific products and components using lean manufacturing principles. This role plays a key part in maintaining cost-effective procurement strategies, ensuring timely delivery, and supporting the company s manufacturing operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage material planning and procurement for designated commodity groups.
  • Reorder components for manufacturing inventories, maintenance, repair, and operating supplies.
  • Process and track capital expenditure requests.
  • Maintain equipment lease records and contracts, notifying relevant personnel when renewals are due.
  • Coordinate with freight companies on claims, lost shipments, and monthly parcel insurance reports.
  • Collaborate with customs brokers to resolve international freight issues and track associated costs.
  • Perform data entry and maintain purchasing documentation.
  • Assist in backing up Buyer/Planners and production staff for subcontract and external processing orders.
  • Manage supplier and material number setup processes.
  • Log and scan expense requests (ERs).
  • Act as the primary liaison with cleaning contractors, addressing issues and managing special projects.
  • Obtain vendor quotes, manage performance ratings, and maintain vendor files (including ISO certificates and supplier evaluations).
  • Place expense and service purchase orders.
  • Distribute commodity price indexes and current exchange rates monthly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, or Business (preferred).
  • At least one (1) year of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with international purchasing and familiarity with the fluid power industry or manufacturing environment (preferred).

Special Requirements:

  • Completion of APICS or ISM-sponsored classes and/or APICS CPIM or ISM CSM/CPSM certification (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in ERP software (SAP experience preferred).
  • Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (minimum two years' experience required).
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Familiarity with supply chain management principles.
