Job Title: Quality Engineer

To drive continuous improvement within the plant to enhance manufacturing processes, focusing on quality enhancement, cost reduction, and efficiency. Monitor and track progress through continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with employees to reduce waste and improve quality, efficiency, yields, and ergonomics. Oversee operator and production team training to ensure the Quality Management System is maintained.


Dimensions of the Position:

  • a) Assist the Technical Manager with quality and processing issues.
  • b) Attend daily reject meetings and lead root cause analysis of non-conforming products and processes.
  • c) Implement Continuous Improvement and Statistical Process Control methodologies (e.g., 8D, Control Charts, Control Plans, and Failure Modes and Effect Analysis).
  • d) Initiate, drive, and support programs to eliminate waste and variation in manufacturing methods.
  • e) Conduct process audits according to procedures and develop Standard Work Instructions.
  • f) Maintain the Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • g) Drive a culture change to emphasize fact-based management practices, using statistical process control and problem-solving methodologies.
  • h) Support project teams in process quality activities through education, coaching, and mentoring on process improvement tools and philosophies. Monitor follow-up to ensure improvements are completed.
  • i) Propose, plan, and manage continuous improvement events.
  • j) Reports directly to the Technical Manager and has a dotted line to the Plant Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • a) 3-5 years of relevant experience in the ceramic refractory industry.
  • b) Bachelor's degree in Ceramic Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university or college.
  • c) Knowledge of 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, and Continuous Improvement tools.
  • d) Proficiency in Statistical Process Control principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • g) Work performed in both an office setting and a fast-paced manufacturing plant.
  • h) Exposure to typical manufacturing environment conditions such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and varying temperatures.
  • i) Occasional lifting of items not exceeding 50 lbs.
