Job Title: Mainframe Developer (Hybrid Buffalo, NY)

This role requires hybrid onsite work in Buffalo, NY, and remote/work-from-home requests cannot be accommodated. Candidates open to relocation will be considered, and a basic relocation package is available for selected hires.

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Developer to support our Loan Servicing Platform (Shaw Vendor). The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying solutions within a traditional IBM Mainframe environment. This role requires expertise in modern IBM z development tools, including IDz, zDIH, ADDI, DBB, and z/OS Connect. Knowledge of GitLab, Sonar, and automated testing is highly preferred. Experience in Agile environments and strong technical documentation skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the analysis, design, and development of complex mainframe systems.
  • Provide technical expertise as an individual contributor on high-impact projects.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced team members while coordinating development tasks for small to large-scale projects.
  • Develop and maintain the technical components of project plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development, Operations, and Technology, throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Prepare, execute, and review detailed test plans, ensuring thorough debugging and validation of solutions.
  • Analyze interdependencies among applications, identifying and resolving potential issues.
  • Offer strategic recommendations for new technologies, policies, and processes to improve system efficiency and business outcomes.
  • Participate in technical evaluations of vendor software as needed.
  • Maintain and promote adherence to development standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company risk and regulatory standards, escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment that aligns with the organization s values.
  • Support internal control standards, including the timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Contribute to additional projects as required, which may include leading due diligence, cost/benefit analyses, or business case development.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in Mainframe technologies, including:
    • COBOL
    • CICS
    • Panvalet
    • Panapt
    • VSAM
    • Xpeditor
  • Experience with IBM z development tools (IDz, zDIH, ADDI, DBB, z/OS Connect).
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with GitLab, Sonar, and automated testing tools (preferred).
