The Accounts Payable Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the payment of liabilities of Empath Health and its Affiliates. Specifically, the Accounts Payable Supervisor: supervises the daily activities of and provides guidance and training for the Accounts Payable Specialists and works with the AP Manager to identify and drive improvements.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Promotes and practices of Empath’s mission and values and follows all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and counseling all Accounts Payable Specialists reporting to this position. Ensures adequate staffing coverage for all disbursement cycles by scheduling staff PTO and by assisting in the daily operations during peak times or in the event of staff shortages.
- Assists Accounts Payable Manager with the review of team members batch verification for posting. Reviews accounts payable edit reports and check registers.
- Ensures appropriate and accurate Federal and State tax record maintenance and filings as they related to the Accounts Payable department (i.e., Form 1099, W-9, Unclaimed Property, etc.).
- Assist Manager to improve, develop, and communicate policies and procedures to achieve organization objectives and ensure current processes are accurately documented.
- Assist Manager with month-end close responsibilities.
- Monitors the status of aging accounts and works with the Accounts Payable Specialists to resolve discrepancies leading to aged payables.
- Positively propose and drive initiatives and adopt a sense of continuous improvement. Produces month end reports and collaborates with staff in General Accounting to ensure reconciliation of the Accounts Payable sub ledgers to the general ledgers.

- Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct supervisory experience of at least one direct report.
- Must have working knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet strict deadlines that are associated with time sensitive disbursements management.
- Embrace Skills in leading Accounts Payable Associates in the absence of the Accounts Payable Manager and exhibit the desire to make improvements to workflow for efficiency and increased accuracy.
- Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, EMR, database applications and Accounting System Software. Ability to keyboard 30 wpm. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with and build effective working relationships throughout all levels of the organization as well as outside vendors.
- Ability to research, retrieve and organize data to prepare reports and financial documentation.
- Ability to maintain accounting records; set priorities and organize work to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills, creative thinking abilities and the ability to pay attention to detail.
