Project Engineer – LNG Facilities & Operations

Position Overview:

A leading energy company is seeking a Project Engineer to support its LNG facilities and operations readiness efforts at an existing brownfield import facility. The ideal candidate will have project management and engineering experience in an operating environment, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure environmental protection and the health & safety of employees, customers, and the community remain top priorities.
  • Participate in HSE reviews, site observations, permit audits, and housekeeping inspections during field execution.

Project Management & Execution

  • Oversee project updates, cost control, scheduling, change management, documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Define and develop project scope, goals, and deliverables aligned with a staged-gate project management system.
  • Develop cost and schedule estimates, incorporating vendor inputs and market conditions, and prepare funding requests.
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, and regulatory standards (ANSI, ASME, API, IEC, NACE, NEC, NFPA).
  • Assemble bid packages, coordinate procurement efforts, and manage vendor relationships.

Contractor & Site Oversight

  • Plan, oversee, and manage contractors, budgets, schedules, and scope adherence.
  • Coordinate drawing/document reviews, RFIs, change proposals, and change orders, integrating updates into project documentation.
  • Facilitate collaboration between Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Turnaround Planning teams.
  • Work with operations and maintenance personnel to coordinate work permit issuance, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Ensure all project modifications are accurately documented and updated in master records before release to operations.

Skills & Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with 10+ years of industry experience OR 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Project engineering/management experience handling small capital and expense projects at an operating facility.

Technical Expertise

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, flowcharts, and fabrication drawings.
  • Preferred but not mandatory:
  • Mechanical/Piping and Instrumentation & Controls experience.
  • Field commissioning and startup planning experience.

Industry Knowledge

  • Familiarity with ANSI B31.3 piping codes, ASME Section VIII pressure vessel codes, and other industry standards.
  • Understanding of engineering practices, safety protocols, and permit-to-work procedures in the petrochemical/LNG industry.

Project & Leadership Skills

  • Strong project management, cost estimating, and scheduling expertise.
  • Proficiency in equipment specification and procurement.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
