The Electrical Commissioning Engineer is responsible for managing the commissioning of large electrical systems, ensuring all activities adhere to NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA/NICET testing standards, and Tesla's electrical codes and specifications. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), they provide technical leadership, expert guidance, and foster team development. This role also ensures that electrical systems are completed in accordance with project scope, safety protocols, and deadlines. Additionally, the Electrical Commissioning Engineer may step in as a backup for the Commissioning Electrical Project Manager if needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership as an Electrical Commissioning SME, guiding safety planning, coaching team members, and offering vendor support
  • Support the Electrical Commissioning Team's day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with the project's execution plan and goals
  • Develop and validate detailed commissioning plans and procedures, ensuring compliance with NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA/NICET testing standards, and Tesla's electrical codes and specifications
  • Oversee construction activities to ensure electrical systems are prepared for commissioning tasks
  • Lead the equipment handover process, resolving any action items to ensure smooth asset transfer to Tesla Facilities
  • Collaborate with the Tesla Quality Assurance team to verify the quality of electrical contractor installations
  • Assist the Electrical Commissioning Project Manager and Superintendent in ensuring a seamless transition to Manufacturing, Operations, and Facilities

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience with a strong background in relay testing and troubleshooting
  • Strong proficiency in NFPA 70E electrical codes and standards, as well as NEC and NETA/NICET testing standards
  • Extensive field experience with switchgear, panel boards, and other industrial electrical installations
  • Well-versed in developing electrical commissioning procedures and troubleshooting 480V and 4160V systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical commissioning and completion programs such as CxAlloy, WinPCS, or other web-based platforms
  • Electrical Design Engineering experience is a plus, but not required
