Job Summary

Kate Marker Interiors (KMI) is seeking a Lead Designer – Small Scope Projects to oversee

and execute design projects that focus on furniture, décor, lighting, and consulting on small

remodels. This role does not involve construction but requires a keen eye for design, space

planning, and curating cohesive interiors that reflect KMI’s aesthetic and clients’ visions. The

ideal candidate will be highly organized, client-focused, and capable of managing multiple

projects simultaneously from concept to completion.

As a Lead Designer, you will collaborate with Kate Marker, senior designers, design assistants,

vendors, procurement teams, and clients to deliver exceptional interior solutions. This is a

full-time, in-person role at our Barrington, IL studio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Small Scope projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery within

client’s desired budget.

  • Develop and present design concepts, including furniture, décor, and lighting selections.
  • Create and revise furniture layouts, lighting plans, and small-scale interior elevations in

AutoCAD.

  • Source, specify, and procure furnishings, fabrics, finishes, and accessories for clients.
  • Prepare and present Keynote presentations for client meetings, including inspiration

boards, Furniture designs, electrical, plumbing and more.

  • Oversee and coordinate installation days, ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Maintain and update the materials library, sourcing new products and vendor resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors to facilitate project

success.

  • Lead in pricing, proposal creation and project management for Small Scope projects.
  • Provide design consultations and recommendations for minor remodels (excluding

construction).

  • Ensure a high level of detail and accuracy in design documentation and client

communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • Strong understanding of residential interior design, furnishings, and styling.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Studio Designer, and Keynote.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with the larger design team.
  • Occasional travel required for client meetings and installations.Benefits:
