Mainframe Developer Programmer Analyst

We are currently seeking a skilled Senior Mainframe Developer with expertise in COBOL or Natural programming for a long-term contract in Austin, TX. Although this position can be worked within the state of Texas, you must be willing and able to come onsite for occasional meetings (Travel and/or relocation expenses will not be provided).The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in mainframe development and an in-depth understanding of mainframe systems. This role will involve supporting the development, architecture, and administration of projects and mainframe operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain Mainframe COBOL or Natural programs, as well as Job Control Language (JCL) to meet both project and operational needs.
• Collaborate with project and operations teams to conduct analysis and develop documentation.
• Adhere to established change control processes and procedures.
• Interface with business and IT teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and application code.
• Identify opportunities to automate existing manual processes by integrating mainframe systems with external systems.
• Work closely with IT support teams to ensure successful implementation of support and project requirements.
• Develop and execute unit and system test plans to validate application changes.
• Participate in full System Development Life Cycle, assisting in the development and execution of test plans and ensuring programs meet business requirements.
• Review documentation and perform quality assurance to ensure compliance with project standards.
• Maintain a reliable and predictable work schedule; occasionally work outside of regular business hours to sustain operations or meet urgent project deadlines.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned to maintain operations.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience as a Mainframe Developer/Programmer Analyst with COBOL or Natural programming.
• 8+ years of demonstrated experience with large-scale, complex mainframe production systems.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in design, implementation, and production support of mainframe applications.
• Expertise in mainframe development, including design, analysis, and coding using COBOL or Natural programming, TSO/ISPF, JCL, and DB2. Familiarity with VSAM files is also required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a global environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to prioritize tasks based on business impact and urgency.
• Experience with application support tasks, including system support, security reviews, and maintenance.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and methodologies.
• 8+ years of experience in creating technical specifications, process workflows, and database record/field specifications.
• 8+ years of experience troubleshooting and resolving incidents or business support items in a Mainframe environment.
• 4+ years of experience with testing.
• 4+ years of experience with database management systems (e.g., IBM Data Studio, Squirrel).
• 8+ years of experience as a Programmer, Analyst, or Systems Administrator.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior related experience supporting Federal, State or Local Government Agencies.
