The Community Relations Coordinator (CRC) will serve as a liaison between the community and Mayo Clinic by understanding the needs of community members and informing Center Leadership of the evolving needs and conditions of the communities we serve. CRCs will understand Mayo Clinic services and research, as well as, be involved in the community at large to create effective linkages between the community and Mayo Clinic. Provide culturally appropriate health education to the community on topics related to chronic disease prevention, physical activity, nutrition, and research participation. The CRC will facilitate communication and community empowerment in interactions with Mayo Clinic entities to build trusting relationships between Mayo Clinic and the community. Help people understand their health condition(s) and develop strategies to improve their health and well-being. Providing informal counseling, support and follow-up for community members who participate in Mayo Clinic services and research. Connect individuals and families to community resources (health care services, social services, food, etc.). Translate and interpret for community members, research participants, and patients, as needed. The CRC will partner with Center for Health Equity and Community Engagement Research Staff to disseminate research findings and discoveries back to communities. The coordinator provides excellent customer services to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Associates Degree with at least 2 years community outreach and/or community health worker experience
or
Bachelor's with at least 1 year of experience of community outreach and/or community health worker experience required.
Connections with Rochester or Minneapolis/St.Paul-area African-American community preferred. Strong knowledge of and experience with local African-American serving, faith-based, and health-related community organizations and their services required. Experience working with diverse populations required. Special Skills: Strong attention to detail, self-starter is required. Social media management and communications experience preferred. Strong public speaking preferred. Demonstrates proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software applications necessary to effectively and efficiently support daily workflow.
Experience in supporting event planning, marketing and volunteer management experience is required. A keen understanding of large complex organizations and their relationships with small communities preferred.
