Job Summary
Responsible and accountable for providing competent and compassionate care as a member of the Community Mental Health Team. The Mental Health Counsellor provides assessment and intervention for individuals in the community who present with symptoms associated with a psychiatric problem and/or addiction, trauma and/or psycho-social problem(s).

Job Summary
Responsible and accountable for providing competent and compassionate care as a member of the Community Mental Health Team. The Mental Health Counsellor provides assessment and intervention for individuals in the community who present with symptoms associated with a psychiatric problem and/or addiction, trauma and/or psycho-social problem(s).
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelors in Social Work (BSW)/Registered Nurse. Member in good standing with applicable regulated health college.
- Registered Social Worker required and Masters in Social Work preferred.
- OCSWSSW or CRPO registration required.
- Three (3) years’ experience working with mental health illness.
- Excellent knowledge related to addictions, substance use disorders, withdrawal protocols, and community resources related to addiction treatment-medication
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Hospitals Act, Privacy and Consent to Treat Act.
- Experience in CBT/DBT and leading/facilitating group therapy is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of Best Practice guidelines in Crisis Intervention and Crisis theory.
- Current BCLS certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessments, safety plans, and providing crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of grief counselling and resources.
- Excellent assessment and advanced counselling skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and advocate for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer programs for data entry of assessments.
- Demonstrates excellent assessment, communication, organization, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as an inter-professional team member in a crisis and fast paced demanding environment.
- Demonstrates a strong abilities to facilitate patient and family-centered care and establish therapeutic relationships.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

- Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others.
- Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
