Job Title: Preadmission Nurse (RN)

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid onsite & remote)

Compensation: $70,000-83,000 Annual Salary

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM (some on-call required)

About The Role

Sandstone Care is seeking a highly skilled Preadmission Nurse (RN) to join our multidisciplinary admissions team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring prospective clients receive the appropriate level of care in our substance use and mental health programs. Using clinical expertise, critical thinking, and customer service skills, the Preadmission Nurse will conduct telephonic assessments, triage medical and psychiatric concerns, and collaborate with medical staff to facilitate a smooth admissions process.

Key Competencies & Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Triage

  • Conduct telephonic medical and psychiatric assessments to determine appropriate level of care (detox, residential, PHP, IOP, outpatient).
  • Utilize ASAM criteria and biopsychosocial assessments during intake.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and collaborate with providers for admitting orders.

Admissions Coordination & Crisis Management

  • Serve as a key decision-maker in the admissions process, ensuring proper placement of clients.
  • Work closely with families, hospitals, case managers, and insurance providers.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for individuals in distress.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure adherence to documentation standards.

Insurance & Administrative Support

  • Complete pre-certification processes for incoming clients.
  • Perform chart audits, data tracking, and records management.
  • Participate in admissions team meetings and interdepartmental communication.

Qualifications

  • An active RN license in good standing is required
  • 2+ years of experience in medical detox, psychiatric triage, and crisis stabilization is required
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and telephonic communication skills are required.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations, including individual experience active crisis, is required.
