The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12,000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. In order to fulfill our mission of promoting safety, we have increased security at our institutions while leading the way in innovative restorative justice projects that will help offenders reintegrate into society upon release.

This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES
The incumbent teaches classes to criminal justice students and is also responsible for coordinating training classes taught by other instructors. The incumbent also researches and develops classes on various criminal justice related topics.
Instructs Law Enforcement / Correctional In-service, mandated and police entrance - level training classes.
Evaluates training courses to determine their value before material is presented to client agency personnel.
Evaluates instructors to determine their skill and knowledge before making a recommendation on their ability to instruct.
Designs and implements assigned programmatic projects.
Conducts on-going research to update training materials/lesson plans/power point presentations for classes being taught.
Facilitates/coordinates the delivery of training by other training providers.
Answers inquiries on police training regulations from client agencies and the public.
Completes special projects as assigned as well as assists skills venues as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience: Five years of experience in the law enforcement profession. Notes: Candidates may substitute additional professional experience as defined above on a year-for-year basis for the required education, for up to four years.
Selective Qualifications

Five years of experience as a Police Trainer/Instructor, developing and delivering training.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

Valid Academic Instructor Certification, COMAR 12.04.04 or 12.10.06.

- Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
