As a Director, Event at Spartan Race, you'll be at the forefront of leading the team involved with producing specific events and ensuring the overall success of a Spartan Race
Duties/Responsibilities
Onsite:
- Ensures every department within the team is working effectively together to produce an event to Spartan Race standards based on Spartan standard operating procedures. This includes all phases of the production cycle
- Responsible for driving a culture of safety and accountability onsite.
- Sends regular updates and reports to HQ.
- Direct oversight of various positions including the DIM, PA, BCM, Foreman, and Festival Manager. Indirectly oversees 30-50 race staff at an event.
- Manages all onsite initiatives with guidance from HQ or as directed internally
- Approve all onsite spending and ensure adherence to the budget
- Manages all race-day communication, including all radio traffic
- Ensures the approved vision and plan for the event is carried through by the team producing the event.
- Ensures the medical team is operating effectively based on their required scope of work
- Oversees the development and execution of all load-in and race-day operational plans including weather response plans, zone management plans, transportation plans, vehicle use plans, communication plans, and volunteer management plans,
- Leads all onsite meetings and pre-race operational briefs
- Works in synergy with onsite leadership to drive a high standard of excellence which includes minimizing legal and financial risk to the company.
- Is an excellent leader who is uniquely in tune with pulse of the team
- Accountable for the success or failure of the event
- Able to manage various personalities in challenging and stressful environments and deal with HR-related issues on behalf of Spartan Race.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with the venue, local municipal departments (permits, police, fire), and vendors to ensure a long-term relationship and successful event while keeping Spartan's best interests in mind.
- Proactively seeks to identify and fix all potential issues that would prevent having a successful event.
- Understand the various pieces of equipment, safety, and application of each.
- Maintain a basic knowledge set to support the various types of materials and technology used throughout the production cycle
- Ensures the overall health, wellness, and happiness of the team on the ground.
- Site visits in support of planning the event, as needed
- Provides guidance and direction with respect to event designs and planning
- Supports the Team leader by gathering event-specific data to complete any post-race reports
- Manages all pre-race emails and communication with the staff attending the event
- Works with other departments to ensure a successful event including procurement, advanced planning, legal, and finance.
- Participates in all inter-department calls required for this position.
- In collaboration with the Project Manager, when necessary helps develop all necessary documents necessary to communicate all important information for an event including travel plans, vehicle plans, meal plans, and maps.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven leadership experience of multidisciplinary teams under stressful environments
- Experience working as a project manager, operations manager, or in the event space
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
- Able to work productively with minimal direction and oversight yet still meet company standards.
- Be proficient with the entire Microsoft Office Suite and cloud based computing software packages (Google Drive, BOX, etc)
- Frequently works 12-18+ hour days in outdoor, adverse conditions for extended periods of time
- Willingness and ability to travel 10-14 days at a time for 5+ events per year.
- Outdoor adventuring and/or endurance racing experience (Ultras, Adventure Races, OCRs, Trail Runs, Triathlons, Marathons)
- Analytical and methodical problem solver
- Attention to detail
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint
- Able to operate basic heavy machinery (Skid Steer and Fork Lift).
- Bachelors degree preferred
