Location:
This is a hybrid position, and the ideal candidate will be located in Washington, DC.
Compensation:
At VEIC, we are committed to pay transparency. The starting pay range for this position will be between $23.00/hour for Grad student or $28.00/hour for Post-Grad student. Based on market data, pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and location. Please discuss your intended work location with the recruiter for more information. The total compensation package for this position also includes a full range of medical benefits, 403(b) eligibility with match, Combined Time Off (CTO), Care and Concern leave, Parental leave, wellbeing benefit, a community service day, and eight paid holidays that are effective as of your first day of employment.

Job Summary:
The Policy and Research Intern will explore complex environmental and sustainability issues and innovative solutions in a collaborative environment. The fellows are expected to engage in research and writing on DCSEU community projects while collaborating with DCSEU staff and customers.
As needed, the Policy Intern will support the VEIC Government Affairs and Policy Department with additional federal clean energy policy research and tracking needs.

As needed, the Policy Intern will support the VEIC Government Affairs and Policy Department with additional federal clean energy policy research and tracking needs.
Essential Functions:
- Focus on a variety of topics, including:
- Energy efficiency
- Sustainability
- Environmental science
- Engineering / Renewable Energy
- Energy policy
- Climate Change
- Monitoring and tracking legislation, primarily at the D.C. City Council level
- Assisting with the development of memos, talking points, and testimony to support DCSEU leadership
- Assists the Manager of Marketing and Communications with relevant public affairs needs, including event marketing and outreach, award application development, stakeholder engagement, and other activities as needed.
- Tracking regulatory developments at the Public Service Commission, reviewing dockets, and updating staff as needed.
- Collecting information on relevant stakeholders via tracker and excel documents.
- Engage with cross-functional teams at DCSEU and be challenged to think independently and identify areas for growth at DCSEU.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.
- Pursuing a graduate or Master’s degree in energy, environmental science, public policy or sustainability.
- Outstanding candidates will demonstrate experience in research projects, stakeholder engagement, and strong communications skills
- Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week from May through August 2022
- Preferred candidate will be DC resident.
