We are looking for a swim instructor that will perform plan and provide high quality swimming and water safety instruction (aka swim lessons). Monitors patron water activities to ensure safety and prevent accidents or injuries.
Some of the day-to-day duties are listed below:
- Plans and provides group and private swim lessons for adults and children as organized by the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
- Organizes and directs activities of assigned students to provide a high level of quality instruction and experience. Establishes positive professional relationships with class participants and their parents/guardians.
- Creates and distributes class participation certificates. Scans certificates to record individual progress. Educates participants/parents to recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.
- Communicates effectively and exchanges information with patrons. Resolves simple public complaints in matters related to swimming instruction and refers other complaints to the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator.
- Enforces the Town of Snowmass Village Aquatics and Recreation Center Rules.
- Works with the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator on an on-going basis to improve and refine individual skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups, abilities and skill levels.
- Assists the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator in adjusting an individual's class assignment and communicating to the parents/guardians as necessary and appropriate.
- Supports the Department in the event of cancellation due to weather or incident by communicating the issue and options for resolution to participants, as approved and instructed by a supervisor.
- Attends training in-services as scheduled.
- Maintains constant alertness and awareness of participants to minimize the risk of incident or accident. Performs water rescues and first aid as needed.
- Contributes to records relating to incidents, accidents, rescues; reports unsafe conditions to the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator or other supervisor on duty.
- Provides a high level of professionalism and customer service, always in accordance with the department's staff expectation agreement. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with all co-workers, clients, professional contacts and community members; communicates respectfully and clearly, identifies and takes care of areas needing attention and expected to be on time and work when business demands require.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
- Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification required.
- Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of aquatics facilities; water safety and swimming instruction techniques, and adult and pediatric first aid, CPR and AED.
- Outstanding aquatic skills and proficiency.
- Ability and prior experience communicating effectively with adults and children.
- Ability to demonstrate advanced swimming skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public; and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
